Treatment Process

At Seaside Spine Specialists, our treatment process always begins with the least invasive option. This often includes physical therapy and Epidural Steroid Injections (ESI) . After that, and depending on what your imaging shows, we might offer you Rhizotomy. Rhizotomy is also known as RFA (Radio Frequency Ablation). These two treatments, ESI and RFA, are delivered in office using a needle under x-ray guidance.

If those interventions are not helpful, then our seasoned practitioners at Seaside Spine Specialists will re-review your imaging and offer more sophisticated treatment options for your pain condition. For Dr. DAgostino, it comes down to offering you the least invasive procedure that is most likely to provide the greatest likelihood of success.

Dr. DAgostino has spent many years in training in order to offer his patients the most advanced and least invasive spinal technologies available. Additionally, through his collaboration with the Center for Advanced Surgery , he can offer a growing number of same day surgical procedures in Charleston’s most advanced surgery center.

At Seaside Spine Specialists we take pride in offering these latest technologies. This allows us to custom fit the surgical solution to your unique situation. Dr. DAgostino and his team take many factors into consideration when offering you a treatment option. For example, for our more elderly population, we must take bone quality into consideration. If you have or are likely to have osteoporosis, then we might consider injecting bone glue into your affected bone which would give it greater strength. With this option, any instrumentation placed within the bone would hold more securely and resist coming loose. Similarly, we always consider any previous surgeries that you might have had. For example, if you have already had a prior fusion surgery with screws and rods, then we will need to consider how our surgery would need to integrate with your prior surgery. We have many options that will allow for integration without the need to significantly affect your prior surgery. This leads to a quicker recovery with less pain.

Dr. DAgostino and his team are also very proud of that fact that they performed the first robotic surgery to South Carolina. Other hospitals have followed our lead since we introduced the Globus ExcelsiusGPS robot back in 2018.

The spine is a complex structure. What is done in one segment of the spine will influence other segments. This is why it is extremely important that you select a surgeon that is well versed in multiple solutions to your problem. This is the only way you can be sure that all options are being considered. This is exactly what Dr. DAgostino and his team at Seaside Spine Specialists can deliver. Click below for the extensive list of surgical techniques and procedures that we can offer you.
